Purpose in Parenting

"Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it."
Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)
I a world full of examples of parenting gone bad I find hope that you and I are parents with a purpose. So, what is your purpose in parenting?
I realize that God gave me my children because He trusts me to raise them and be a good stewart of His children. They didn't choose me, God did.
I often think that when I start the comparison game. Have you ever played it? You compare yourself with another parent and you start to feel less than. Come to find out, God created you unique in order to raise  unique children. No copy cat business allowed here.
This parenting thing is so interesting that even from generation to generation the purpose can be different. I am raising children in a different culture than my own. Some of the values I am teaching are changeless but my purpose is very unique.
I'm sure this parenting with a purpose deal gets more intense as children get older. I believe it's important to remember that, otherwise I fall prey to assembly line parenting. There isn't a formula for parenting when you are doing it with a purpose. You learn through a healthy relationship with God and with your children.
So, what is your purpose in parenting?
"Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up."
Deuteronomy 11:19 (NLT)
