Prayer Series Part II

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Today I wanted to share with you a series on Prayer we are doing with our church choir. Here are my notes. Enjoy! - Cintia

Part 2: Spirit, Help us to Pray  (Romans 8:26, 27 NIV)

* Jesus said it is important than I go so another may come which is the Holy Spirit: "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage (for your good) that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Advocate) will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. " (John 16:7 NKJV)

* Romans 8 says that  we owe the flesh NOTHING for we walk in the Spirit.

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God." (Romans 8:26, 27 NIV)

Here are some words to notice:
1. Helps - means joint help, from one person to another as if carrying the same load
2. Infirmities - means physical, mental or moral weaknesses or flaws.
3. Groanings - Greek: "STENAGMOS" means, unutterable gushings of the heart. Only used here and in Acts 7:34
"I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt." (Acts 7:34 NIV)
4. He who searches our hearts - all the persons of the Trinity search hearts: Father (I Chr. 28:9; Jer. 17:10) Son (Rev. 2:23) Spirit (I Cor. 2:10)

* we make mistakes if we don't rely In the Spirit's guidance in prayer.
* Count on the Holy Spirit's help to pray. He lives in you.
