3 Tools for a Peaceful Journey

I shared this devotional this morning with my MOPS group, I pray it blesses you!

It's amazing how a storm can show what we 're made of & what we lack. You don't know you lack Peace until you are faced with a storm. The disciples didn't know they suffered from a lack of peace until their boat was faced with strong winds and waves that were beating into their boat so that it was filling with water. Jesus was in the back of the boat asleep on a pillow. The Bible, in Mark 4:38-41 says that they awoke him and said: Master, do you not care that we are perishing? 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”[a] 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

My storm came in the way of High Blood pressure & anxiety. I had been through various changes in life which culminated to a blood pressure of 160. I was immediately medicated and told to go home to rest. That's how I felt: hopeless, helpless, knowing I needed to change the direction of my life if I wanted to have a healthier life. The Good News is, we all have Peace on the inside, we just need to tap into it.

• I want to offer you 3 tools that will help you in the journey of a more peaceful life.

1. Relaxation:
"A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body." Proverbs 14:30 (AMP) We all have experienced the benefits of relaxation. As you engage in activities that relax your body, your mind becomes calm and your health benefits from it. When you purposely relax your mind, you find that Peace is within reach. Relaxation brings healing.

2. Prayer:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV)
When we pray anxiety leaves our hearts; it is as if a great exchange happens: we trade our problems for a Peace that surpasses all understanding; a peace that will guard our hearts and our minds. This prayer is not a monologue but a dialogue with God. As we cast our cares on the Lord and give him our concerns, He answers us with perfect peace.

The third tool on our journey to a more Peaceful life is

3. Biblical Meditation:
meditation means continued or extended thought, reflection or contemplation. The Bible talks about meditation extensively. We all know how to meditate. For example when you are worrying about something, you are giving your problem your continued or extended thought, reflection or contemplation. If you know how to worry, you know how to meditate. Here's one of many Bible verses proving that Biblical Meditation can lead to Peace:
Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You."

For too long society has told us that Motherhood and worrying walk hand in hand but as Daughters of God I want to challenge you to hold the hand of the Prince of Peace.

My challenge for you today is that we all embark in this journey towards a more peaceful life. Take one of these tools and use it to your advantage. In closing, here are sweet words of Life from God's heart to yours:

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 (NKJV)
