The Prayer of Compassion

Thursday, June 13, 2013

This week I am starting to study on The Power of Compassion in Prayer and wanted to quickly share the amazing things that I learned. I believe that our prayer life is enhanced when we pray with Compassion.

When Jesus was moved with compassion miracles happened. Because of being moved with Compassion Jesus fed people (Mark 8:2), taught people (Mark 6:34), opened eyes of the blind (Matthew 20:34), cleaned lepers (Mark 1:41) and raised the dead (Luke 7:11-17) among other things.

As Christians we are also encouraged to have compassion for one another (1 Peter 3:8).
Today I am encouraged to Pray with Compassion knowing that it just doesn't stay as a feeling but it will certainly lead to action. Here's how it may work:

Let's say a friend is going through an illness. As I pray with a heart of compassion, God leads me to share an encouraging Word with my friend. I obey and my friend is encouraged, so God gets the glory for the whole thing.

Be open to whatever action God leads you to take. It may be giving something, it may be sharing a resource, it may be laying hands on the person and seeing a miracle happen in the name of Jesus. There's no limit to what God can do through you as you pray with Compassion.

Here's are a few Action Items for you and I today:
• Pray for a heart of Compassion;
• See the Prayer Needs of others as opportunities to be compassionate;
• Wait for the answer and follow your prayer with Action.
