My First Modeling Gig

Tuesday, September 10, 2013

Most of you won't believe this but I got a Modeling Gig. My lovely Women's Bible Study is having an event next month which includes a fashion show, music, dinner a special message from our leader. I was invited to be one of the models (aren't they kind?). Being a Model is not an easy job and I'm so glad that's not where my paycheck comes from but in a way, I've always been a model. Listen to what Jesus says about it:

You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16

Before this Modeling Gig came about I was meditating on what being a Christ follower means to me. I personally believe that I'm not called to be Jesus' lawyer but I am His billboard. Whether I like it or not, others are looking at me to see how I am living what I believe.
Jesus calls me salt of the earth and light of the world. I cannot be hidden, I am go give light to all. Jesus is the source of any light I have so this Modeling for Jesus thing is a good business!
My sincere prayer is that I model my reality. What I mean is that perfection is far away from me. I have issues, trials and tribulations like everyone else. What I choose to do is to rely on the hope I find in Jesus to keep living an abundant life. I've been hurt and healed. I've hurt people and asked for forgiveness. I have been frustrated, afraid and hopeless only to find that my Father in heaven gives me keys to navigate life with hope and purpose.
I'm a model but my life is not glamorous "as seen on TV." I clean poop, I potty train (which means the poop might be in the bathroom floor), I lose my patience, I seek my peace. My life is not glamorous but because of the God I serve, my life is glorious.
I love the assurance of freedom in the Spirit. I love that I am being transformed and going from glory to glory. Now that's a Modeling contract I can totally sign!
"Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

If you are a local friend and would like to come to my modeling debut, let me know and I will give you more information. I am NOT expecting to get more gigs like this but I'll have my head shots ready just in case :)

QUESTION: Do you see yourself as a model? What do you hope others see in and through you?

Yay! I will be there and will cheer you on my beautiful friend. I really hope others see Jesus shining through me when they look at me, always working on this, because some days are easier than others.
