Focused Action 2017

Thursday, December 22, 2016

I have a great time answering these questions each year. Feel free to answer them in your own time and back it up with some focused action. 2017 is almost here so let's arrive there with a goal in mind friends!

• What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year? - Mindless browsing. I plan on restricting my time in that area and I plan on turning this into a better habit. I can still enjoy the internet, I'll just do it with a method in mind.
• For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year? I have a few people I've prayed for over the years and they are still on my list.
• What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year? I can schedule my prayer time to make sure I can get longer sessions in. I have no problem praying, we pray every day. What I do miss is praying for more then 30 minutes.
• What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in 10 years? In eternity? Making my family my complete priority, no matter how unglamorous that looks on the outside.
• What area of your life most needs simplifying, and what's one way you could simplify in that area? This is what I sad last year: "I can be more organized on a regular basis. I need to implement systems that allow me not to be stuck with a bunch of big projects 5 or 6 times a year. I need to get some help in that area and I plan on doing that in 2016 for sure." I did become more organized on a regular basis. It took a few months and finding what worked for me (my "45-minute organization solution") but I have become more organized on a regular basis. I implemented the systems and now the systems work very well. I did get some help but it didn't work out like I thought it should. I can blog about that later if anyone out there is interested. For the upcoming year, I want to simplify my meals. I cook a lot and I want to get the freezer meal thing down as a habit.
• What habit would you most like to establish this year? I want to journal more in 2017, both my regular journal and my food journal.
• Who do you most want to encourage this year? Zeke.
• What's one new way you could be a blessing to your pastor (or to another who ministers to you) this year? I can be more sensitive to Zeke's needs on Sundays. I wear different hats on Sundays but helping him is my priority. I need to think faster on my feet in a way.
• What's one thing you could do this year to enrich the spiritual legacy you will leave to your children and grandchildren? I can explain the Bible to my kids. I can show them how great of a Book it is. I want to make it relatable and relevant year round. We do a good job around the holidays but I want to keep the excitement going all year round. Good thing they're all interested.
• What book, in addition to the Bible, do you most want to read this year? I'm open to non-fiction suggestions.
• What one thing do you most regret about last year, and what will you do about it this year? I regret being influenced by the insecurities of people around me. Their insecurities didn't take over me but it tainted a few of my decisions. Living and learning.
• What's the most important trip you want to take this year? I'm open to traveling where God is taking us. We have one trip schedule so far and many other plans.
• What skill do you most want to learn or improve this year? I want to improve my writing and public speaking skills.
• What one biblical doctrine do you most want to understand better this year, and what will you do about it? I'm taking a Bible Study Methods class this Spring, so this is it.
If those who know you best gave you one piece of advice, what would they say? Would they be right? What will you do about it? If it't not fun any more, stop it and make sure it is fun. They would also say, be yourself fully.
• What's the most important new item you want to buy this year? Probably a ticket to a cultural experience. Whether traveling or listening to the orchestra, new experiences like these are enriching.
• In what area of your life do you most need change, and what will you do about it this year? I think I need to arrive at the "contentment" station a bit quicker. If God wants me to clean tables all my life, I'm content with that assignment.
