Life After Baby: Weight

Thursday, August 19, 2010

What's the right time to start losing baby weight? "Sooner than later" has been my answer. Last time I lost the baby weight then I gained more. I want to be very transparent, so here are my numbers:
First baby:
Starting weight: 145 lbs
@ 9 months: 195 lbs
Second baby:
Starting weight: 190 lbs
@ 9 months: 216 lbs
My current weight is 195 lbs. I am scared to tell you what I want to weigh but a healthy weight for my height is 130 lbs, so that's what my goal is. I have 64 lbs to get there.
Since I came home from the hospital I tried to eat when I was hungry. I also tried to watch my portions. I tried to eat a lot of vegetables and fruits.
We currently don't have a lot of extra money to go to Weight Watchers (which is what I wanted to do) so my plan is to do the following:
• Follow the eating plan that helped me lose 40 lbs in a healthy way;
Use my gym membership at least 3 times a week;
• Run a 5K at the end of October;
• Be part of a weight loss challenge online;
• Be accountable to someone (probably my husband).

So, here is the official before picture everyone:

Here is the weight ticker (it is also at the bottom of this page):

Believe it or not I don't feel bad about the fact that I have 64 lbs to get where I am going. I know I am not what I weigh, and that takes a major weight off my heart. I am more concerned about having a healthy approach to this journey.
I want to be healthy. I want to be a good role model for my kids and darn it, I feel better when I'm fit! I also want to run a marathon (Chicago) one day. I think these are great reasons to lose 64 lbs. What are your reasons to be healthier?

Cintia, I'm so impressed with your past weight loss success. With your positive motivators and so much enthusiasm, you can so do it!

I'm having trouble setting goals for myself right now, still 10 weeks to go until my daughter's due date, I'm not sure what numbers to shoot for, except I feel strongly that I want to run a 5K, that I'd like to wear my old size 10 jeans with room to wiggle and dance. I don't even own a scale, so I'm not sure how important a pound goal is?

Good luck, and can't wait to watch you succeed!!!

@Tammy thank you dear! Love the new design on your blog. Your photography work is fantastic!
@Megan thank you friend! I used to focus on 20 lbs at a time. Smaller goals add up to a lot!
@Sareece thanks for reading and for the encouragement! I think you should get a goal that works for you. Getting on a size 10 sounds fabulous and healthy. A lb goal is important to me just because of my past history with weight, my insistence with having a great BMI and -I hate it but...- vanity. Follow your heart and don't sweat having a certain # of lbs lost. Do what works for you.

I look forward to reading more about your journey. I'm starting my own. I've fluctuated to much and that can't be healthy either. Love the ticker by the way.

Good luck!! Where do you have a gym membership? I go to the Fitness center by the hospital. I have to wait until Liam is three months old before I can use the nursery there and then I will hopefully be going all the time. I also want to take a zumba class to see what that is all about, we can go together if you know of a good place that isn't over crowded.

btw, I started at 145 also, went upto 180, dropped to 160 after the baby and slowly gained and then lost 10 pounds. With baby number two I started at 160, went up to 190, and I currently weigh 170... I just want to fit back into my jeans that I wore before the first baby.

@Whyzzerd I used to work out by the hospital, now we are working now closer to home ( a little cheaper). Zumba is awesome, specially with the teacher they have at your gym, you'll love it! I plan to get the kids out and walk outside as well but I'm waiting for a stronger muscle. Might take me a few weeks to be able to push a stroller and carry a baby. Oh, our gym has no nursery...
@Anonymous just e-mailed you :)
