Introducing: My Sponsors

Tuesday, February 8, 2011

I was excited to hear the USDA released the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. You probably heard the portion most of the media has been focusing on.

“Reduce daily sodium intake to less than 2,300 milligrams (mg) and further reduce intake to 1,500 mg among persons who are 51 and older and those of any age who are African American or have hypertension, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease.” More

I fit two of the categories, which means I should avoid sodium as the devil avoids the cross. I’ve been doing that for 5 years. I try to season my food with lots of garlic, onions and other things that bring out the flavor of foods less the evil sodium.
My reasons to lose weight and be a healthier me are not superficial. I want to live a full, long, healthy life. I can’t wait, I must act now and I am.

Sponsors
On my way back from a photography walk through town I thought I should have a sponsor to help me finish my weight loss journey. There are many costs associated with losing weight so having an extra incentive is the way to get there, right?
Unwilling to convince Weight Watchers that I should replace Jennifer Hudson I decided to go to an even better choice: my family.
Official Sponsors

I decided to ask my family to officially sponsor me to arrive at a healthy BMI. I think it’s quite a great deal for both parties. For example, I can give them increased Brand Recognition. Everywhere I go I can wear a t-shirt, mention them in speaking engagements and even drink out of a coffee mug with their photos in it. The truth is, I already do that everywhere I go, I represent my own. One of the goals of the sponsorship is that my actions represent them well, so no get slim quick schemes allowed. No starvation diets, no short cuts. I must enjoy myself the whole healthy way.
In exchange I’m able to do things that would be impossible without this sponsorship such as workout without having to worry about babysitters and the most important benefit, I get to enjoy years of a healthy life with them. I’m glad to represent this great Corporation. I hope to make them proud.

My dream is to live in such a way that my children will learn a healthy lifestyle as a norm. I pray that preventable diseases common to African Americans will not affect us. I have a feeling I am planting these seeds now.

I wonder who sponsors you to be a better you?
