Kindergarten without Fear

without fear
I don't want time to slow down. I'm actually thankful for life and its natural progress. This is the time of year where first-time parents of Kindergarteners freak out about the first day of school. It is part of my personality to do just the opposite. While I am not jumping for joy (I'm saving that for college and grad school graduation) I am trying my best not to be overcome by fear. I am anchored in the perfect love of God, which casts out all fear. Here's how to Bible puts it: "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." I John 4:18
God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I want to have this approach to my kids going to school for the first time. I'm not fearless, but I will fear less because of the assurance I have in Jesus.
Our entire family is looking forward to this new exciting season in our kids lives. The pursuit of knowledge is an exciting thing. While there are no perfect institutions out there, I do believe that God knows what He's doing and we will be diligently to represent Him well in this new social sphere.
If you keep reading that 2 Timothy verse, you'll run into "therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord..." (verse 8). My husband and I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and we teach that love to our children. It is my prayer they are "not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power to salvation for everyone who believes..."Romans 1:16.
We are trying our best to present a peaceful and exciting attitude about school to our children. I am often reminded that I have parents who went to school before me and turned out great thanks to God. I also went to school and turned out great thanks to God. I am believing God for a great academic experience for my kids.
I originally came to the States to attain my higher education degrees so all my previous experience comes from a foreign country. I feel like I'll be going to school for the first time too. Thank God I have a husband who went to school in the States as well as access to many friends who are educators and who also have school-age children.
As I look ahead, I see that Kindergarten doesn't last forever. It is just one short year and I pray that it will be super fun. I am observing several peers sending kids to college and they tell me it went by super fast. I will heed their heartfelt advice to enjoy these early years. I do believe that if I keep fear away from my heart, this experience will be even better.
This whole post is to remind myself (and others in the same season of life) that God's perfect love will take care of fear of the unknown. Let's embrace God's ability and let's rest in His perfect love.
Take a deep breath my friend, it's gonna be alright!
Now tell me, once you put your fears aside, isn't life better?
