Day 40

"I pour out my complaint before Him; I declare before Him my trouble."

Psalm 142:2

What a journey. God has done great things during these 40 days. I heard that you were convicted. I heard you tell me the root cause of your complaints. You dug deep and thanks to God, you saw victory.

My challenge to you and I was the following:

1. Pray and ask God for forgiveness for being a complainer;

2. Ask Him to teach you how to live a life of Thanksgiving;

3. Read His book. Start with Psalm 142;

4. When you do have a complaint, ask yourself the following:

• What is the goal of my complaint? Is it to damage someone's reputation or is it to find a peaceful resolution?

• What is the estate of my heart as I complain? Do I need to forgive? Do I need counseling? Do I need to pray before talking to others about my issues?

• Will my complaint be fruitful? Do I need to learn more about the natural processes of life? Do I need to create a thankful heart instead of a complaining heart?

In 40 days, we developed the habit of being the masters of our thought life. That’s right. Our thoughts were not exempt from this challenge. God wanted all of us, even the thoughts we entertain.

Where do we go from here? We go towards a life that is filled with joy, peace and Godliness.

I don’t know about you but my life was good before but now, the joy and the peace have increased. My prayer life has become more active and exciting. I complain less because I go to God more and more.

When I do have legitimate complaints, I make them with a clean heart. The other day I went to the bank to complain about an unauthorized purchase from out of state. One of my kids, knowing I was leading this challenge, asked if I was really going to complain. I said yes, someone stole my hard-earned money. I have to tell someone about it.

I studied the state of my heart. I presented my complaint with a Godly attitude. The banker fixed my problem. I learned that even in difficult situations, there is a Godly way to complain. I can bathe legitimate complaints with prayer.

I am grateful for you. Thank you for joining me on this 40-day journey.

Prayer: God, thank you for alerting me about my need to grow in gratefulness and thanksgiving. You did a work in my heart. It wasn’t easy but it was worth it. Help me to walk in the freedom you died to give me. I am free to live a life of thanksgiving. I am grateful and I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
