Love

“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Col. 3:14 9 (ESV)

Complaints can affect generations of people. Ask me how I know. We were at the end of a good day. My children were complaining about something. Instead of going on with our day, I decided to talk about what God thought about complaining.

I told them about the story of the Israelites complaining to Moses about their lack of cucumbers and fish in the desert. I put their complaints into perspective. God’s deliverance is a great blessing. There is no need to complain about something you prayed for.

The kids had a few questions. I could tell I had their attention. We moved on to Colossians 3. I told them that love, God’s love, is the only way to truly be thankful from the heart. I told them to think about most of the baking we do. We use eggs to bind all the other ingredients together. Whether we are baking banana nut chocolate chip muffins or waffles, eggs bind everything together so the ingredients work to form a final product.

Love is like eggs. It binds compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience together. In a way, if we truly love and Jesus does, we will speak words of gratefulness.

I wonder if you have ever prayed for God’s love to fill your heart.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me your love. Only when I operate from love, all the other Christian characteristics can blossom. Help me to be known by my loving words, not by my endless complaints. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
