I'm Just Too Close to the 5K

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

We used to sing a song at Gospel choir that said "I'm just too close can't turn around / His grace brought me this far I can't turn around / My steps are ordered the way has been made / He promised He would be with me / Sometimes discouraged but He encourages me! / I've got the victory!"

And that's exactly how I feel about my 5K 10 days away. I've been training since July 23 of this year, which means I've been training for a little over 2 months. I'm also a little over 2 months pregnant. My pregnancy hasn't totally slowed down the training but I did struggle last week. I've been running some every week and I know I can finish this race.

My problem last week was with discouragement, thus the Lord's word not to cast away my confidence because it brings a great reward (Hebrews 10:35). So I encouraged myself in the Lord, seeked support from Zeke and went back to training last night. I didn't have on socks so my feet were hurting but you know what, I'm running again. I also went ahead and sent in my payment for the race, which means that now that I have money in it, sister girl will show up for sure. The race is hosted by such a great organization I really believe in, and it will be a great accomplisment for me, my husband and baby. I can safely say that most women in my family are not athletic and looking at my background, you can say that I'm not better or worse than anyone, I just made different choices and have different goals in life.

So, upon entering the automatic sliding doors of the gym I was greated with a 'where have you been?' That was great to hear. I go to that place enough that people actually notice when I'm not there working out. I asked one of the trainers about modifying my workout and they told me I could keep doing what I was doing til the end. They told me about a woman who ran up to the day before she had her baby. All of this is very similar to what my doctor has said.

So, I need lots of encouragement and prayers now that I'm a little over a week away from my first 5K. The photo on the top of the page is from last year's race. Yes, those half marathoners do look cold next to Cold Mountain LOL but you do tend to warm up during the race.

If God is for me, who can be against me? I give God all the praise for over 2 months of training. Ever time I run I thank Him for telling me I can live a healthy live full of enjoyment in this earth. If you know anything about me, you probably know I'm already plotting my next 5K, half marathon or something similar. I'm gonna cross the finish line Oct. 11 and see where we go from there. Pray with me for a great race friends.
