Dia das Mães Mother's Day

We never had a sit down conversation about parenting, yet she taught me by her actions what parenting is all about. My mother, Sueli Rocha Furtado, raised me and my 4 siblings in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Every day I saw her on her knees praying. Every day I watched her read her Bible while drinking her first cup of coffee. I heard daily wisdom come out of her mouth and would later in college found out that most of that wisdom came out of the book of Proverbs. 

Nós não conversamos muito sobre o assunto, mas através de suas ações, minha mãe me ensinou como ser uma mãe virtuosa. Sueli Rocha nos criou em Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. Todos os dias eu ouvi suas orações. Todos os dias eu a vi lendo a bíbia enquanto tomava o seu café. Eu recebi muita sabedoria através de seus lábios, e quando me mudei pros Estados Unidos descobri que a maioria daquela sabedoria veio do livro de Provérbios. 

My mother taught me that it takes a village to successfully raise a child. Now that we have kids of our own we wonder how in the world she managed to raise 5 kids. She said she had a lot of help from family and friends. She never tried to be the super hero, but she accepted and gave a lot of help to other women around her. Now that I am raising my own children in America I was afraid of not having a lot of help, only to find out about the truth of Mark 10:29-30. I left Brazil for the sake of Jesus Christ the Gospel and I have found a hundred fold now in this time of mothers, sisters, grandparents and all the family I need. If you are raising your child far away form your family please know that God is faithful to His Word and He will give you family you never knew existed. It takes a village and God provides that village for you out of His Body. 

Minha mãe me ensinou que pra educar os filhos, precisa-se de bastante ajuda. Agora que tenho filhos eu fico imaginando como ela criou 5 filhos. Ela disse que teve ajuda de família e amigos. Ela nunca tentou ser um super herói, mas aceitou e deu muita ajuda as mulheres que faziam parte da vida dela. Eu tive muito medo de não ter muita ajuda por estar criando meus filhos fora do Brasil até que descobri a verdade encontrada em Marcos 10:29-30.  Eu deixei o Brasil por amor de Jesus e do evangelho e eu recebi cem vezes, nesse tempo, irmãs, mães, avós e tudo quando é parente que eu preciso. Se você está criando filhos longe de casa, lembre-se que Deus é fiel a sua palavra e ele te dará familiares além do que você possa imaginar. Deus proverá através do Corpo de Cristo.   

My mother taught me that parenting is more than changing diapers and feeding kids all day. While we were growing up she was always taking different health and cooking classes. I remember how vibrant she was when she got home from her classes and how we benefited from her education. After sending 5 kids to college she went back herself and earned her degree in Nutrition. I am thankful that I was never my mother's only reason for living.Through a vibrant relationship with Christ she was able to teach me through her actions that parenting takes daily prayer and study of the word, it takes help from others around you and it takes pursuing dreams for your own life whether is education or starting your own business. I thank God for a woman who taught me that which is more precious than rubies and all the things I may desire may not be compared to the wisdom I received from my mother.

Minha mãe me ensinou que ser mãe é muito mais do que trocar fraldas e dar comidinha a criança o dia todo. Minha mãe sempre fez cursos de saúde e culinária. Eu lembro de como ela voltava pra casa feliz depois de suas aulas e de como nós fomos os beneficientes dos estudos dela. Depois que nós todos fomos pra faculdade minha mãe voltou a estudar e se formou como Nutricionista. Eu sou grata por não ter sido a única razão de viver da minha mãe. Através de um relacionamento amoroso com Jesus ela me ensinou em ação que pra ser uma mãe virtuosa eu tenho que orar diariamente, estudar a Bíblia, aceitar a ajuda de outros e alcançar os meus sonhos, seja estudos ou o meu proprio negócio. Eu agradeço a Deus por uma mulher que me ensinou o que é mais precioso que jóias e nada do que eu possa desejar se compara com a sabedoria que recebi da minha mãe.
