My Happy Place: Bible Study

Sunday, January 13, 2013

One of my favorite places to be looks like this:
What you cannot see in this pic is the ginormous study Bible my husband has that I use pretty often. I love studying the Bible and sharing what I learn with others!
I haven't had time to sit in a regular Bible study for quite some time - considering I gave birth almost 7 months ago you can tell I have been kind of busy. I do make time to study the Bible on my own on a regular basis. I made a Scripture Journal and that's where I often write my thoughts. When I have a chance to lead a Bible study or Prayer, I write my notes on the iPad and teach from it.
I really enjoy reading a passage of Scripture in different translations. Sometimes I read the same verse in every English and Portuguese translation Youversion has to offer. I think I get a different insight when I do that.
I think that reading the Bible and writing down what I understand is a great way of meditation. I often go back and read my Scripture journal and I am always blessed by doing that.
This is a happy place because the Word of God is alive and active. It is super sharp and it can change me from the inside out (Hebrews 4:12-13). I find strength, wisdom and much needed peace when I study the Bible.
The Bible is super entertaining as well. How so? Real people have real stories there. You can read from love stories to murder mysteries. There is the beauty of poetry as well as people spilling their guts about being human and being betrayed by friends. When I think of the "toned down" versions of the stories I learned as a child I see that the full blown truth is quite interesting (hello Noah!).
I love to study the Bible and this is one of my happy places.
QUESTION • Do you enjoy reading the Bible? Where do you read the most?

Yes, I enjoy studying the bible and I enjoy talking and writing about it.
My favorite place is typically at the kitchen table early in the morning with a cup of tea.
I try to blog about insights that i gain from the bible.

I used to read the Bible and during the day think about what I read in the morning, but you inspired me to do a journal with my devotional reading and it has been a great experience! Even if I don't have too much time to write a lot, I take a note of the Scriptures and what I learned from it. Great tip, thank you!
