Front Roll Ticket

"Here is the true magic of Christmas--not what you are doing for your family or friends or yourself or even for Christ, but rather what he has already done for you."
Timeofgrace.org Devotional

Who would ever thought that Advent gives us front roll tickets! I love how personal God is with us. I've been meditating in the following passage of Scripture:

"Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." Luke 2:8-11

I'm pretty sure that being a shepherd was not that glamorous in those days. Those guys were working third shift and all of a sudden an angel appears with a mighty message AND they score front roll tickets to a concert (look at verses 13 and 14)! All of this before getting to see newborn Jesus. I'd say that was a great day at the office!

Almighty God gave us full access to Himself because of Jesus. We are not in the back, we are not behind some veil but we have front roll tickets. Advent reminds me that Jesus was born to make God's personal relationship with us possible. He is the only access to the Father (John 14:6) and today I am thankful for that.

Advent is a heart thing. Regardless of our circumstances, God reminds us that He has come for us. Whether you are working third shift or just going about your regular day, remember that God has cool  ways to remind us that Christ was born to us and for us. What a personal God He is!
