Healthy holidays: look for the good

Monday, December 19, 2022

Look for the good are the guiding words for my year. I created the habit of looking for the good each week as I think back on the progress I made in my health journey.

I also learned to write down a few things I need to do to improve my journey.

My biggest conclusions about the year in health are:

• Sticking with CrossFit was the wisest thing I did. I went to class before during and after moving. I adapted to new coaches and new programming. I grew in strength and skill as a result. I dreamed of doing a pull-up for over a year. Within 6 months, I was able to do 2 and a half. Consistent work pays off.

• I found my way back to the Weight Watchers in-person workshops. When I go to the meetings, I get wisdom, encouragement, and accountability to care for my health. My coach told me that people who kind of do Weight Watchers kind of get results. People who follow the plan, get results. I'm encouraged and ready to get the results I need. • Practicing CrossFit with my family has been a great joy. We never really did the same thing until now. It's been fun cheering for one another and seeing everyone grow in strength and skill.

• Having a plan for the holidays is great. I never feel deprived when I have a plan for the holiday season. I learned, year after year, that I can thrive during the holiday season. A clear plan allows me to navigate the holiday season with success.

I know that the Christmas season is a tough season to stick with your health plan. I'm here to tell you that it is not about being perfect. If you look for the good before, during, and after any holiday gathering, you will be in a better place to make wise choices for your health and well-being.
