The Good House Wife

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Wife: "I washed the dishes, cleaned the baby's room and the bathroom today."
Husband: "You are exceptional!"
Wife: "I don't think that house cleaning is in my genes."
Husband: "Well honey, I think it's more of a learned behavior."

This was a true conversation between my husband and I. During most of my time in the U.S. I have focused on work and academics. My apartments and dorm rooms have been organized and clean. Until the Little Prince was born I was never really responsible for the well being and management of the whole household. It's been a real interesting experience. Every day I realize that if I don't cook, we don't eat. What a huge responsibility! I try my best not to compare myself with chicks who have 6 more children than I do and a spotless home. More power to yall. I am always in the search for balance. Where I come from most people have maids. Most days I feel entitled to one and I have been promised one in the future (yes!). For now, I'm responsible for the chores and it's only fair. I have written about having weekly menus and the thing really works. We have found some new favorites such as this pasta salad. It's incredible how much you can accomplish by simply following a recipe. The things they don't teach you in Journalism school :) My aim in life is not to be remembered as the chick with the cleanest home ever. I want to be remembered as a woman who was present for her husband and kids, not a shadow of a person who's always cleaning something while the rest of the family is having fun. I can't remember where I got the recipe from (somewhere online) but it works. Zeke took the photos for me :)
