Mind of a Servant

Monday, June 9, 2014

"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
Philippians 2:5-11 (NKJV)

I've been "parked" in Scriptures about being a Servant lately. This morning I heard someone use the Philippians 2 passage and I found it to be even more evidence of the character of my Savior. I also realize that it takes a mind shift to follow Christ's example and become a Servant and that's what I am praying for because it is oh so difficult. Jesus "made Himself," He "humbled Himself" too which gives me a clue that there was quite a good amount of will power involved in the process. I bet those times of prayer alone helped the process. I bet that knowing His mission helped as well. I pray that as my mind is renewed I will arrive at a new level of servanthood through obedience. God has called me to be a wife and mother and I believe that having the heart of a Servant is not automatic - at least it hasn't been for me. My prayer is that I will follow the example of Christ so I can function as a Servant.
