Houston Marathon Training Week 3

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

I had strep last week so the mileage was super low. Funny how each marathon season is so unique. I think my first season was pretty stable as far as training. I'm believing that with God as my stability and sufficiency, Houston will be a great marathon in January.
I could have pushed myself to do an extra run or two but I was not ready to get out in the cold with a achy ear and brave 15 miles. This week is different tough. I'm jumping back with the group and running 13 miles this Saturday. I can't wait! I miss running with the group.
Yesterday I did an easy run and I was pleased with my splits. It's encouraging to know that my body doesn't slow down because I gave it rest and nourishment.
The goal for the rest of the week is to get 2 cross training sessions and to get ready to run 13 miles and actually make sure they're tempo (10:20ish).
I never really timed my long runs (I know!) but I'm going to do it for the next 10 weeks. I was training for mileage til now but this time I'm going to actually time them so that I can do the same come marathon day.
My first 2015 marathon will be different. I know it will be wonderful but the conditions for each race is so different. In 2014 I was surrounded by my running buddies in Houston. I'm not sure if we'll be in the same corral in 2015, so it's important for me to get used to long tempo runs. I can do it with God's help.
My hope, prayer and goal is to run injury-free and to PR in Houston (go to the Archives at the bottom of this post to see how I did in Houston). I have nothing to prove but I do have a lot to gain when I cross that finish line giving God the glory for one more Houston Marathon.
No matter what comes my way, I am assured that God is protecting me, guiding me and blessing me. Enjoy your week my friend!
