Lights out in Rio

Monday, January 12, 2015

Every time it rained in Rio, electricity went out. It was the late 80s and we didn't know if the outage was going to be for 30 minutes or 10 hours. One night we were all downstairs in the living room and My dad had a candle burning on top of the bookshelf. He proceeded to quote this:

"And he said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand? For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” Jesus in Mark 4:21-23 (ESV)

Every time I hear this Bible passage I think about that night. We lost electricity countless times but that night is forever branded in my memory because my dad brought Scripture to life.
I pray that as a wife, mother and friend I can do the same for the people who are around me. I pray that I can love the Bible so much that these Words of life effortlessly flow out of my heart.
I also pray that the light of Jesus can be manifested through my life every day. I find that this "love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all."
