Reaching Goals in the Fall

The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty,
But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
Proverbs 21:5 (NKJV)

The Fall season is amazing. I love the smell of pumpkin spice everywhere. I love the cooler temps, which helps me tremendously when I’m running. I also appreciate the proximity to the end of the year.

I also enjoy thinking about the goals I set for myself in January. Most people give up on their goals in the Fall but not you and I. A little diligence will get us there. Diligence is careful and persistent work or effort. I’ve learned that diligence is the key to reaching the goals because it helps you get through the rough spots.

We all hit rough spots on the way to our goals. The diligent get passed them and succeed. What does it take to be diligent? Faith in God and hard work on your part.

I heard someone say “pray as if everything depends on God, work as if everything depends on you.” I believe this is the correct balance between faith and the work we put into achieving our goals. You can do it my friend, pray and work diligently.

Here are a few tips to those who feel a bit overwhelmed with their goals:

Read your goals often. I try to look at my goals at least once a month. Some people look at their daily. The goal is to remind yourself of your goal.

You don’t need a special day to start. Start as soon as you can and take small steps towards your goals.

Tell yourself not to give up. In 2018, I have told myself over and over not to give up. It has worked.

Celebrate small victories. If you pay attention, you will see how much you are accomplishing in addition to your goal. Celebrate those victories. You don’t need a big party, just the recognition that you are a better person.

I hope you are encouraged to reach your goals. There is time. Have faith and be diligent.
