12 days of Christmas devos: Preparations

Wednesday, December 19, 2018

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest; For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins, Through the tender mercy of our God, With which the Dayspring from on high has visited us;"
Luke 1:76-78 (NKJV)

Preparations for Christmas come in all shapes and forms. We prepare our homes by decorating it for the season. Our family hung Christmas decorations as soon as we finished our Thanksgiving dinner. The kids were eager to welcome this joyous season.

We also prepare our home by making it ready for guests. I am currently decluttering my guest bedroom closet. That closet had become that place I could hide all the extra stuff. Last night, the whole family helped me find a forever home for the items deposited there. What a joy!

Today's scripture is about preparation. Zachariah is speaking of his son John, who would prepare the way to the Lord.

I believe we should prepare our spirits this season to receive Jesus in a new way. I always pray that this season, Jesus will reveal Himself to me in a new way. The only way to receive Him is to actually pay attention to him.

Our lives get cluttered with competing interests. We must make room to hear from God this season. My challenge is to keep enough simplicity in my life so that I can welcome Jesus in my life.

How can you prepare your heart to hear from God this Christmas season?
