"For in death there is no remembrance of You; In the grave who will give You thanks?" Psalm 6:5

We've all heard the type of advice that is fear-based. "Be good to others because you never know..." Often, people infer impending death with this type of advice. I know. Not my favorite either. The fact is after life, death is inevitable.

The psalmist in today's Bible verse reminds us that we need to give thanks now. There is no thanksgiving in the grave. Down there, all the work of gratitude is done.

To be completely fair to the context of the psalm, the writer is asking God for help. He makes his case by telling God that there is no way to thank Him from the grave.

It is good to give thanks while there is life. Today, as you read my words, you are alive. I trust that you are fairly well. I encourage you to give God thanks while you can.

Prayer: Lord, I give you thanks from the land of the living. I appreciate my ability to think of reasons for gratitude. I choose to express them now. You are good and your mercy endures forever. I give you praise, in Jesus' name, Amen.
