2021 Goals

Tuesday, December 29, 2020

I used to write lofty and complex goals. I'm not ashamed of them. I do think that people can set goals however their heart desires.

I enjoy setting goals because they give me margin, direction, and most of all results.

A few years ago, I decided to simplify my goals. The many categories were becoming a lot. Yes, I was achieving most of them but my life was too stressful in order to accommodate the goal-getter mindset. So, I simplified.

Simplifying my goals does not lessen the amount of work I do daily. It does not lessen the focus I put into achieving a lot of my goals. It means that less is more.

I decided to focus on 3 goals for the first 3 months of 2021. I am going to have more than 3 goals for the year. After all, I'd love to advance in the following categories: Family, Faith, Health, Business, and Other.

The first goal I am after is to lose 10 lbs by March of 2021. By achieving this goal, I will be completely finished with the goal of losing weight. I've written this goal down for several years. I've been making slow, steady progress. It is absolutely time to reach the finish line and move on with my life.

I still have two other goals to focus on for the first 3 months. I believe they will be in the family category. I am still discerning the 'what' and 'how.'

It's funny that I plan on keeping some of my old habits. Reading the Bible in one year. Exercising. Writing. These things stay on the list.

It is also funny that I am deleting other things that I loved as great habits for many years. These things are not serving me well. They are not bad at all. The season is up and I finally decided to quit. I am eager to see what awaits me on the other side of this decision.

I have been praying that God will guide as I set my 2021 goals. My problem is not setting a goal and following through with it. My issue is: whose idea was this? Mine was was this a God-led goal?

I know God has no problem with me going after what I want. I do run into issues when there's no longer grace to do something that was good before but it doesn't fit the place where God is taking me.

So I grow. I have no other option but to follow God's leadership for my life.

What about you? Have you set your 2021 goals?
