Combative words

"The wise in heart are called discerning, and gracious words promote instruction." Prov. 16:21 (NIV)

Each morning I get on my knees and pray for wisdom. Lately, I've been faced with a lot of situations where I am tempted to use combative and defensive words toward others. The attitudes I am combating are negative, rude, troubling, and instigating.

God answers prayers yet I'm the one who lives out the answers.

I appreciate my daily reading of Proverbs. It reminds me of what true wisdom is. Today's reading reminds me that I can be discerning when I respond to people with negative attitudes. No matter what type of attitude they give me, I can offer gracious words. I find that when I pause and think, those dear people lack some instruction I have to give. I have a piece of information they do not have. I can offer it with grace. Gracious words promote instruction because it is easier to learn in a grace-filled environment than in a hate-filled environment. I'm not sure if you will have tough conversations today. If you do, remember God is the source of wisdom. You are discerning. Your words are filled with grace.
