What I learned Winter 2024

• I am my biggest cheerleader. Every time I run a major race, I notice how many doubters are out there. I notice the support. The thing that both of these lovely groups cannot do is the work. I'm the only person who can do the work therefore I need to be my biggest cheerleader. Getting out of bed to run alone in below-freezing temperatures is very difficult. Being my own cheerleader helps. If I don't believe in myself, I'm not sure who would fully get out there to do these impressive physical feats.

• I went back to distance running. I was grateful to God for blessing me to train and complete a local half marathon. Crossing the finish line was a big blessing. To be honest with you, I didn't hear a lot of cheering. I did know that God saw me and He saw all it took to train. I also thought about all the family and friends who sent me encouraging words. As I was holding my medal, I realized that some difficult things are done by ourselves, which is okay.

•  Losing weight during the holiday is better than gaining. I got to start the year on the right path. The holiday plan I started in the Fall was a complete success.

• Choosing to spend time with things that create big payoffs is a must. Letting go of distractions needs to become a habit. Consistency is a good friend.

• The most important preparation we can all make happens in the heart. Starting each day with prayer and Bible study is the key to facing a busy season. God knows what each season holds. We can always find guidance when we go to Him.

• God is always available to guide us with His wisdom and love. It is up to me to get on my knees and pray. It is up to me to open my Bible and read.
