What I learned this Winter 2021

Winter attire.

Winters can be cold, harsh. If we let it have its way, good things can happen. • This winter I turned 41. We went out of town and just spent a lot of time together exploring new places.

• This winter, my marriage really blossomed. 15 years after we said I do, I love Zeke so much more. He is the greatest blessing I have on this side of heaven. I'm beyond blessed to be his wife and I look forward to each second with him. Blossoming comes after a lot of natural processes of life as well as intentional investment.

• This winter we had two major snowfalls. One kept us at home for one week. We made the best of it. We cooked and ate together. We rested. We played games. We prayed and thanked God for our blessings.

• This winter I learned that if people do not want me to be part of their lives, I will believe them. I just have to believe them quicker. There is a clear difference between acquaintances and friends. Friends give you access to their lives. Acquaintances want me around when is convenient for them. I’m okay with that. I know there are people out there who show me they are my friends because of the access they gladly give me.

• When I work on myself, my parenting benefits.

• If people do not want me to be part of their lives, I will believe them. I just have to believe them quicker. There is a clear difference between acquaintances and friends. Friends give you access to their lives. Acquaintances want me around when is convenient for them. I’m okay with that. I know there are people out there who show me they are my friends because of the access they gladly give me.

• This winter I learned that rest is my superpower. I am thankful for the gift of resting. I get my best rest at night. It is worth sacrificing in order to get to bed on time so I can rest and recover for the next time. You can’t put rest in a pill: you just have to do it.

Winter had its way. I learned to let go of bitterness and pain. I learned that no matter how harsh winter conditions are, Spring is unstoppable.
