MWLISS: Purple Plan

Wednesday, November 13, 2019

This week, WW changed to its new plan "my WW." I'm an online member so when I opened my app, I was welcomed to the new plan. I was offered three options as far as choices. I was given little explanation between the Green, Blue and Purple Plan.

I quickly noticed that this choice was important. Regardless of my experience with the plan in the past, this choice could determine my future success.

I chose Purple. Purple offered the least amount of points (16). I honestly read the descriptions and looked at the number of points. Purple would offer me simplicity. I thought, "I can use more simplicity in my life."

I quickly connected with the WW App to see what the buzz was among the members. People were raving about Oats being zero points (or a Zero Hero) on Purple. I'm an oatmeal person and I was thrilled about that. Other foods I enjoyed that were zero points continue to be zero. The greatest surprise to me is that in the Purple Plan, Potatoes and whole-wheat pasta and grains are also zero. That's a solid day of eating for me all for zero points!

Here's the tricky part of the equation: the things that are not zero points need to really count. I had a pretty light lunch and decided to have 3 chocolate Lotus Biscoff cookies with my coffee. Those guys were 5 points. I had already spent 2 points at breakfast which meant I only had 8 points left for the day.

My potential barriers are eating out. I'm really going to have to stick with zero point foods in order to stay on track. The way I plan on overcoming these barriers is to order a grilled salmon with a salad when eating out. I've made peace with skipping dessert until the holidays (let's see if I can keep up with this difficult but doable task).

There was also some talk about rivalry within the WW App community. I guess that's what happens when you divide people into groups. Most members were excited about the change and eager to get going.

What if Purple doesn't work? According to WW I can switch back to Blue (the previous plan I was following) or Green (I don't even know what the perks are for this choice).  The key is to give the plan 2 weeks before deciding to switch.

My goal is not to switch but to track faithfully and enjoy the results. My goal between now and the end of the year is to lose between 8-10 lbs. I believe that the myWW Plan is giving me the excitement, accountability and guidance to accomplish that.

I wondered if I needed to join a workshop (formerly known as meetings). I'm not sure if I will. So far, being online only is working. I'm not crazy about the monthly fee compared to the fee for online only. I am going to keep tracking. When I stop seeing results, I will join the workshop.

Last but not least, it is always good to remember why I'm doing this. I often remind myself how far I've come in this journey. Slow progress is still progress. I'm not where I was before and I will keep going until I reach my goal. The goal is to arrive at a normal BMI. The goal is to be healthier so I can be a better wife and mother. Thanks for joining me in this journey!
